If the latch works fine with the outside handle, but not the inside, it is nearly always a problem with the "remote handle" assembly behind the door inside panel. Quite often it is a broken or jammed spring. That part for your car is B-702268, $4 at C&G.

Dan, in addition to Bob's advice the remote may be badly worn. The shaft wears into the bushing. Not uncommon on the driver's side door. If you pull the door panel to check the remote it would be beneficial to also pull out the latch. Clean it with carb cleaner and relube it with white lithium grease.

if you do replace the inside door handle spring, this earlier discussion might be helpful. the suggestion was to bend the tabs and remove the bracket holding the handle and spring, but
these i couldn't even bend. very easily anyway. and i thought, this ain't gonna be pretty. i decided to try one last time feeding the spring thru. i moved the handle to the open position so the spring would rest on the lowest part of the "cam." much to my surprise, using a pair of channel locks with one jaw on top of the spring and the other beneath the bracket i managed to compress and flatten the spring just enough to get it started in the slot. a bit more squeezing and it was in place!
