Would a '40 trans cover bolt holes line up with the holes in a '36 frame? I know the '40 cover has no opening for a shift tower and I've heard the '35-'40 frame is the same. Are the frames the same in the area of the trans. cover?

The transmission cover bolts primarily to the floor pan. While the frames in that area are very similar, '36 vs. '40, the floor pans are vastly different.

Kube's40, now that I think about it you're right, the trans. cover bolts to the floor pan only; I was thinking the bolts for the trans cover passed through the floorpan into the frame. I also now realize there are no bolts but screws that screw into the floorpan to secure the trans. cover. Thanks for responding . This message was edited by Flatbob on 12-22-12 @ 2:58 PM

As I recall four of the fasteners do go through the trans. cover and on into the frame on a '40 Ford. The remaining fasteners, as you suggest, simply affix to the floor pan.

The two trans covers are different. You would have to do a fair amount of work to get the 40 to fit the 36 or vice versa. You can get repo covers for either car and they do fit well. This message was edited by trjford8 on 12-23-12 @ 9:16 AM
