I am having trouble with a leaking cap. After trying to make thin gaskets to shim the old one ,it still leaks. Before ordering one ,I just wanted to check with you guys to see if anyone has bought one lately and if its any good. Seems like I have had a run of crappy parts lately. Thanks

Just put a new 4 lb. cap on my '41. It leaks. I can hear it leaking air after it has been running for a while. On a recent 100 mile run it also leaked a bit of coolant. Next, I'm going to verify that all the surfaces that meet are smooth and make sure the reach on the cap matches the depth of the neck on the radiator. I'd be interested to know if you find out your cap is defective.

'36 has a unique cap, and is hard to find. Most vendors don't show them, except for the pickup trucks. If you are having a problem with leakage around the cap, check the condition of the radiator neck. Many times, cap leakage is actually due to a crack around the overflow tube where it connects to the neck of the radiator.
