Have a 46-48 block I want to dip and inspect to verify it is good enought to rebuiild. Heads, exhaust manifolds, intake manifold, flywheel have been removed. One or more pistons frozen. Have been putting penetrant into all cylinders. Before removing crank and pistons should I remove valves and cam. Is there anything else that should be addressed before removing crank/pistons ? Allen: You might as well strip everything after following Supereal's advice regarding removing the carbon ridge on cylinders. You can do that after you pull the crank by tapping the stuck pistons down a ways from the top with a wooden block and heavy shop hammer. Once you get all the things that "move" out of the way, you can concentrate your efforts on the things that don't. It's pretty hard to isolate which piston(s) is/are stuck when they are all hooked to the crank. At least this way, you can start cleaning up the "innards" and evaluating what needs to be replaced while you are soaking the one or more sticky pistons. Dan BMSN/YN2 USNR (6 YRS)
