I know that the ignition and the door are the same key. Are the spare tire and the trunk keys the same?

Usually, the ignition key is separate from the door and trunk keys, which are identical, in the Ford practice. However, the locks may have been replaced or rekeyed over the years in some cases. An accessory, such as a tire lock, would be an additional key, depending upon if it were on the car at assembly, or added later. Lock cylinders, particularly those exposed to the weather, are commonly replaced, and not all owners wanted to pay a locksmith to rekey them to the original pattern.

On a 36 Ford, the ignition and door locks were keyed the same, and the spare tire lock and trunk/rumble locks were keyed alike, but different from the ignition.

Don, If a '36 open car had a spare tire lock and a glove compartment lock would there be 1 round head key for ignition 1 football shaped key for spare tire lock 1 ? shaped key for the glove box lock? Since the glove box lock was (I think) a dealer installed accessory would it have come with its own key or was the dealer supposed to somehow make the glove box key also work the spare tire lock? Thus making only two keys for a full set, not three. Thanks for your comments on this. Henry

Henry A dealer installed glove box lock would have its own football shaped key with a unique key code. If the lock is factory installed it was keyed the same as the spare tire lock Don
