I have a 46-48 engine block I would like to mount on an engine stand I have. The engine stand is one you would purchase from Harbor Freight or Auto Zone, etc. It has been 30+ years since I last did this so I have forgotten where exactly to bolt the stand to the block. I remember not feeling comfortable with how I did it last time. I placed a 2 X 4 under the unsupported end of the engine to keep some of the load off the end attached to the engine stand. You were dead right about not feeling good about your mounting method. The ONLY safe way to bolt a flathead to an engine stand is to use an original-style adapter that attaches to the exhaust port bolt holes on the side of the block. Attaching to the bell housing extension is a good way to break the block and possibly cause personal injury. Various suppliers offer these that will plug into your engine stand in place of the tube and plate system provided. I'd try http://www.flatheads-forever.com/ for starters.
