i lost my plate light and fuel gauge . are these on the same circuit? i did replace the sender in the tank with a known good one. car is 6 volt positive ground. 1946 ford super deluxe flat 8. also replaced the bulb in the plate light. no change with issues. if i take the wire from the sender and ground it to the frame the gauge goes to full. thank you in advance

The fuel sender is powered via the gauge. The rear license plate light is in the same branch as the tail lights. As grounding the sender wire swings the gauge needle, that circuit is intact. Be sure that the body of the sender has a good ground connection. The license plate light is accessable from the inside of the trunk lid. Check to see if there is power, with a voltmeter to ground, or a spare bulb. The round bezel gasket for that light is usually cork, and water leakage can, and does, corrode the socket. I'd have to say that having two troubles at once is just an old car coincidence.
