Topic: Convertible tops

There was a discussion back on October 29th about the small window on converts making them scary to drive. Granted side mirrors help but a bigger back window would be nicer. Has any one installed a larger window in one of these early converts? If so, will the top still be able to go up and down without a problem and does it overwhelm or clutter up the appearance of the car?

Winter is rapidly sitting in which means the '36 will be hibernating for several months. This may be a good time to undertake a top project.

Thanks

Tom

It would be rather easy to install a different (larger) window in the rear flap. It would certainly not effect the operation unless you went "crazy" big.
Another option as long as authenticity is not important to you would be a vinyl back window. You could make that as large as you wanted with no possible folding related issues.

Most good convertible tops have a zipper around the rear window flap, which can lowered into the top well for better rear vision. As most of us with "rag tops" drive mostly top down during the year, it doesn't seem necessary to modify the top. If a sudden shower comes up, you just zip the rear anel back in place.
