Topic: 42 Ford Vent Window Problem

tex42    -- 11-09-2012 @ 12:57 PM
I'm bringing up a 1942 Ford Tudor and discovered that when putting on the vent window handle that the part it screws into is broken (pot metal fell apart while trying to tighten up the screw). FYI, it's the driver's side. Does anyone remake that part? If not I'd sure like to find a good used one. I've attached a picture of the broken piece (Poinging to the broke part with a sharp tool). Any help? Thanks, David

Most good vendors sell replacement parts and rebuild kits for the crank type wing windows. We have bought them from C&G.

Yes, but they do not have the part that the handle screws onto.

I had to make the shafts for my '47 convertible, as none were available for that model. We made them out of stainless steel, and it was a shame to hide them under the door panel. If you have a good machine shop nearby, perhaps they can make one for you. The pot metal parts are often badly worn or broken, and we have had to duplicate many over the years,

I believe that you just need a new crank P/N 21A-7023410-BK, available from Bob Drake.

You might want to install a regulator repair kit also if your regulator is binding.

David I had the same problem on my 1942 Ford Coupe but on the passenger side. I bought a NOS unit from Mark Kiscak but for the drivers side. I drilled out the 2 rivits and replaced the broken part and gear into my broken passenger side unit. Put back together using short pan head screws, lockwasher and nut. Has worked great for about 10 years now. I also lubricated the gears with white grease before installing back on the door. You can use any closed car unit from 1941-1946 Ford Super Deluxe. The part number is 11A-7023403 for the drivers side and the part number for the passenger side is 11A-7023402. The Convertible unit will not work because it has a different part number. You may have to locate a used one. GOOD LUCK, Fred

Tome O, I've got an brand new handle. I need the part the handle screws into. Mac's, Bob Drake, C & G or Obselete & Classic Ford Parts does not have the part I need! Please see my picture.
