Hello! My family form Norway has bought a Ford 1936 Model 68 XA, and we want to know more about the history of this car. The 4 door Model 68 has been resting and well hidden in a barn since early 50s. The strange about this car is that it is has 2 extra folded seats and a glass divider. The rear doors are longer than original and looks extremly well done, so is also the wheelbase. The car seems to have original black paint, but handpainted many years ago in skyblue color. We can`t find any traces in body, floorpans and roof or frame that it has ever been cut and welded longer. We know that some sedans was rebuild in Norway and Denmark but often cut and extended between the doors or behind the rear ones. This car show no traces of it. Can the Ford identyplate in engine room give more information to you? Its original and no extra numbers is stamped in afterwords. To us does it looks like this car was originally built from factory because its so well built and with a strange interior color. Can it be that Ford had a commercial chassis with longer wheelbase with stronger drivetrain that they might have used on special orders? The engine has 2 waterpumps, not shure if they all had. I would be very thankful if somebody took the time to help us out if they knew anything about this 7-8 seats cars from Ford, because we can`t find any technical data sheet on Ford telling that they had a version with longer wheelbase than the 112". There was a thread regarding this car about a year ago on a "professional car" forum. http://www.professionalcar.org/forums/index.php?/topic/9900-stretched-1936-ford-v8/. Reading through it, I'd surmise that your car was custom built in Europe. All Ford V8's from 1932 through 1953 had two water pumps, and Ford of USA based all of their auto's on non-commercial chassis, but apparently yours has been streched 12 inches. Check out the above link, and perhaps you will learn more.
