Topic: Air cleaner conversion

I had an article on how to convert an oil bath air cleaner to use a new paper filter. I can't find it. I tried a search and got nothing. Can anyone help?

What do I have here? I bought this one already converted. It says United Oil Bath Air Cleaner on the label.

Well, you have been saved a bit of work, and I'd just use it and enjoy the freedom that someone before you has given you vs the servicing of the original. I think that as long as the cartridge element seals against the top, ("hat"), and the bottom seals against a solid surface in the "bowl", it should work just fine. You might want to note the number on the element though, as when it comes time for replacement you will need something for reference.

Many of us have re-flogged the old oil bath units, as there is adequate internal space, once the wire-mesh part is removed to accommodate various replacement cartridges. The biggest advantage to a paper element over the oil bath is that the oil bath is somewhat
rpm sensitive, in that it has an operating range that depends upon optimum air flow for that specific application. It compensates a bit for that with the wire-mesh "pre-cleaner"
but really only works best at certain speeds. A paper element filters the air regardless
of the flow-through volume. Lucky You!
