I need to get the transmission rebuilt on our '39 Ford coupe. Does anyone know of a reliable mechanic/shop in the New London CT area? I would prefer a retired gent who wouldn't mind me getting my hands dirty too.

The nearest I know is Charlie Schwendler in New York state. His contact info is in your club roster. Two things are important: having experience and the right parts on hand. He does.
