I seem to recall that my old 39 standard coupe had a battery tray recess in the firewall. Is that true? My deluxe does not (has a separate battery tray resting on the frame). Do all 39s deluxe bodystyles have the same firewall (no battery recess)? Thanks

1938 Ford Standard, Deluxe and 1939 Ford Standard the battery tray was built into the firewall (Dash) The 1939 Ford Deluxe had a battery tray that was a separate part 91A 5152-A or 91A 5152-B that mounted on the frame. If you have the V8 Clubs 1938 - 39 Ford Book see pages 4-25 through 4-29 there are very good photos showing the difference.

Cripp is correct. The '39 standard had a recessed cowl that held the battery. The deluxe models had two variations of clamping systems but both had the battery located in a tray atop the right frame rail near the cowl. Picture attached of a 39 std. coupe I am currently restoring. If you need a picture of a deluxe, I just finished restoring a convertible and can snap a photo of that. let me know.

Kubes Thanks! How about a full photo of the convertible? As the 39 Deluxe convertible is perfect as they come, I can't imagine anyone complaining...
