Is the 1936 Ford battery positve post connected to the ground cable, or is it the negative post that is the ground?

Your car was built as a positive ground system. Thus, if it has not been modified, the positive terminal of the battery is used for the ground.

That's what I thought. I installed a new battery yesterday with positive ground, and today the battery is dead. Any ideas?

A new battery usually needs to be charged before using.You may also have short circuit draining the battery. Dis you leave the parking lights on? Check that the brake light switch is adjusted correctly. Disconnect the NEG battery cable and connect a test light between the cable and the battery. If it lights, you have something draining the battery. Check all lights and the cut out. Tom

If you don't have a test light handy just look for a small spark when you take the battery cable off and touch it lightly to the battery post. Unless it is a very small drain you should be able to see the spark if there is a problem. Remember if you just finished charging the battery there might be hydrogen gas present that will explode.
