Topic: FORD 48 Trim

  Hello
I bought all new molding trim for my Ford 48 convertible, in order to avoid problems by overhauling the old ones...
To my surprise, the rear quarter trim I bought from Macs for $300, are not the trouble free I thought they would be.
The trim curve is different than the originals, and obviously different to the body of the car...But worst of all, is that the clip channel on the back of the trim, is shorter than it have to be, making impossible to match the last hole on the body, with the trim clip. The result after all the clips are attached: the tail of the trim remains 1" away from the body!.

I contact the supplier but I got no solution.

The best bet is to return for a refund. Some of the after market stuff is perfect and while others leave something to be desired. If you can determine who made the one you have, you may be able to find different source. Use refinished old trim if all else fails. That is what I am doing. Good luck.

All repro trim is of poor quality compared to the original, and usually not of stainless steel, as are the originals. Those can have the dents pounded out, then filed smooth and polished with buffing wheels and compound. The Eastwood company sells an excellent kit of wheels and compound for the job. Do buffing carefully, and always wear gloves to protect your hands in case the wheel catches the trim. I found that out the "hard way".
