I have a 36 ford, and I'm thinking of installing a Steering Damper.The travel on it is limited, and I don't want to damage it by over travel on the steering. Anyone know if there is any type of steering adjust- ment or stops to control the steering radius? Any help will be appreciated Thanke Hal

In regard to your specific question, there are two things that limit the turning radius. 1) The amount of travel the steering gears are capable of. No limits can be placed upon that area. In other words, it is what it is. 2) The authentic nuts that hold the lock bolt in the axle at the spindle pins is about 1 1/4" in length. Those were designed that length for a specific reason. Namely, to act as a "stop" against the rear of the backing plate if and when the driver should attempt to over steer. The nuts in most replacement spindle pin kits are not correct, being typical hex head nuts.

On my '35 Fords the flanged part of the spindles, that the backing plates are bolted to, stop against acorn shaped nuts that are fastened to the bolts that lock the kingpins in place. The steering system does not stop against the backing plates. I'm sure your '36 is the same as '35. This message was edited by JM on 10-19-12 @ 12:05 PM
