Topic: Silicone in waxes, warning

Recently I won a bottle of Turtle Wax Ice synthetic detailer at a car show. I thought, great this will give a quick shine without the white residue left in seams. Wait a second, maybe I better find out if there is any silicone in it which causes fish-eye in any subsequent paint application. It is extremely difficult to remove, even with special so called "silicone removers". I called Turtle wax customer service and was told that "Almost all of our products contains silicone".

I believe that is true. Yes, silicone causes "fish eyes", but a competent paint shop can remove it. Silicone can actually work it's way into the pores of the metal, which causes these problems. Our painter did each section separately after we disassembled the body. That way, any parts that heavily contaminated can be redone, instead of the whole vehicle. One of the biggest contaminators is Amor-All, so use it sparingly.
