Topic: 1936 Oil Change

Purchased this car about 2 months ago and now I want to change the oil. The previous owner said he used 30W non detergent oil and there is no filter. On my 1958 & 1956 I use Amsoil 20w50 ZROD high zinc oil, would this be alright to use in the 36 flathead. I didn't see any filter, so I guess that is true

I use 20W50 during the driving season with my '47. The brand is Castrol, but any major brand is good. As the previous owner used non detergent oil, there may be some sludge deposits, so it is a good idea to change the oil again after a few hundred miles while the engine is hot. Non detergent oil is not required or desirable because the contaminants settle out, resisting removal. ZDDP additives are helpful in some later engines, but the old V8s don't need it, as the valve train isn't under the extreme pressures of the new vehicles. Don't forget the correct fill without a filter is four quarts.
