The backing plates are 1946-48. The post war brakes only adjusted at the sides. The prewar plates adjusted in 4 places, 2 bottom and 2 sides. The war years were a little muddy in my mind. Shoes need to match the backing plates (pre or post war). Charlie Stephens

Thanks Charlie. I'm familiar with the adjustment procedure for the top & bottom type plate, but never had this post-war type. Does the post-war top only adjustment bring the entire shoe surface into play?

If you look at the post war brake shoes there is a slot in them (in the bottom where the pre war adjusters are located) that allows the brake shoes to move up and down. Charlie Stephens This message was edited by CharlieStephens on 9-17-12 @ 8:14 PM
