I posted a rather lengthy intro message yesterday (12/29/09) which has not yet appeared. Is it lost? Can it be retrieved? New topic: I have been restoring my 1950 Ford since July of 2008. I have progressed to the point of having it towed to a local garage to have the engine rebuilt. Thus far, I have been hoping to avoid the prospect of installing a new wiring harness; is this advisable since the car has not been driven since 1967? I was recently advised that I should rewire, but the contortions necessary to access the connections under the instrument panel to achieve this are daunting to say the least. Are there any electrical restoration experts out there (in the Cleveland, Ohio) area that can accomplish this for a reasonable fee?

Yes, your car probably needs to be rewired. Unless you're a complete klutz, you can rewire your car. Get new wiring from someone like Rhode Island Wiring. Get a member of the EFV8 Club who lives nearby to help. Richard

Rewiring the dash is not that difficult and you don't have to lay on your back to do it. It's much easier to unbolt the dash (not that many screws) and roll it over onto your lap and replace the wiring. Also, if you haven't allready visited the shoeboxford.com web site do so. There are some members there from the Cleveland area. Between this site and that one you should find everything you need from parts to answers. Great bunch of guys in both places.

ewaters, laying on your back wiring a car is not fun for us "old guys", but there is a way to make it easier. I remove the front seat and it makes it easy to get in and out of the car.When you do lay on your back you can stretch out. There are many V-8ers in your area and I'm sure there is help available with your wiring. Check your roster and call the local regional group of the club.

hi 50FORDV8 RHODE ISLAND WIRING will include a wiring diagram,and if you have questions,you can call them, verus the big venders, were you will likley get a person that only knows the order numbers,GOOD LUCK WITH THEM. I have used RHODE ISLAND, and like what they sell,VERY NICE,correct colors and size of wire, there price might be a little higher, but remember MADE IN USA, YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR,,, And you can always post a question,to get answers,

hi EWATERS I forgot to add, if I was going to do the wiring, I would not disconnect any of the wires from were they go, I would cut the wires,so you have a idea what size and color of the wire and what the ends look like,and do one wire at a time,AND CHECK THE LENTH,matching them up. this way you should not get confused, Remember this is a 1950 FORD, not to much wiring in them to start with, the idea of removing the front seat is a good one, [ you can always catch a nap,, ha ha ] also one of the new modern LED DROP LIGHTS, is another,do not get hot and will no BURN YOU, and do not rush the job,study the diagram ITS NOT THAT HARD TO DO, and after the job is done you will be HAPPY TO SAY , I did IT,,,, hope this helps 37RAGTOPMAN
