Starting problem--whats up with my 48 Ford,all winter long it would start whenever I tryed it, today when I went to start it caught first try, then stalled and now it refuses to start.We tryed every thing that I can think of,pulled plugs cleaned regaped them,we have spark, fuel everything you need to start, but just won't catch, any buddy got any ideas, shes always stated before no problem.

Two possibilities I can think of. Are you getting fuel to the carb? If so, it could be bad gas. Check the flexible fuel line between the fuel pump and carb. Also,check the vacuum line from the carb to the distributor. I am assuming this is a cold start after sitting for a while.

While you have spark, it may be at the wrong time. I suspect one of the two sets of points in the distributor is not making contact. One set makes the circuit, while the other breaks it. One set will charge the coil, but it will not be at the correct time. Points that sit for a long time can form an oxide on the contact surface. Replacing the points should cure your problem.

John, do you have a spark that is at least 1/2" long when a plug wire is held near a head nut? If not check your condenser and coil. Tom
