Does the '48-'52 truck pan have a slightly greater capacity than the passenger car? I have an aftermarket dip stick that is the correct length but oil indicated level only comes to the "e" in "safe" and looks to be about a quart low in reference to the full line. I know I have four quarts in as I'm filling it with oil for the first time. With 4 quarts am sure I'm safe but curious as to why it indicates less than full.

If you have an oil filter, the correct fill is five quarts.

There is no such ford # as you state it. Its either an 8BA or an EAB. 8BA is a 49-51 #. and EAB is a 52-53 #. ken ct.

We check the dipstick after a correct refill and, it doesn't show "full", we re-mark it. Many old engines have an incorrect dipstick that looked OK, but are not, as they probably came from a junkyard when the original was lost. Due to the difference in oil pump pickups, it is best to use the later pump when the later pan is used on an earlier engine.
