Ford MK3 my engine check light stays on, blinks, car stalls then same thing until warmed up. when i put it in gear it just sits there, about five minutes until warmed up, and doesn't shift easily when going uphill (automatic trans). where do i attach the diagnostic tool to check the problem(s)? What about the car Adapter the owners manual doesn't show a place.

Your in the wrong site for this question. We are "old" guys with old cars. The only diagnostic tool we have is a long screwdrive pressed into our ear.

Most diagnostic tools attach to the OBD plug under the driver's side of the dash. These are not of standard configuration, and can vary from make to make. These require a specific adapter to connect to the "on board diagnosis" outlet. There are lots of DIY code readers on the market that will give a reading of the code set in the ECM, but you must have a chart referring to your vehicle to determine the meaning. Many vehicles require a professional tool to reset the trouble light. Our main tool, from SnapOn, can tell us what is happening in each cylinder, and turn that cylinder on and off, as well as diagnose and reset the ECM. It is a great tool, and for about ten grand, it ought to be!
