I have a 48 ford sedan and the floor cover over the tranny has quite a twist in it. since i promised myself after a few expensive and unsatisfatory expereinces on other repairs that I would attempt to try and do most repairs myself before spending any money and send it out.Can anyone tell how to get that twist out and what orginal size bolts held it in place.

Since I can't see your floor pan, the only thing I can say about removing the twist is for you to examine the pan carefully and remove any dents or creases. You will probably have to shrink the metal in spots.

The parts catalog calls for 1/4-20 binding head screws with internal toothed washers to hold it in place.

You would be surprised at what you can do with a floor jack, some wooden blocks and the weight of your car. The trick is to figure out what forces caused the unwanted twist and then find a way to exert force in the opposite direction. Maybe you could screw or clamp one side of your pan to a long 2x4, pin the other end between some blocks under something heavy (like your car tire) and then twist. I once straightened a twisted deck lid on a '50 Ford this way and amazed my friends.
