I just bought a 1950 Ford Woodie (Early one with wood tailgate). I am thinking of making my own wood for it. Does anyone have any plans or know where one can get plans for a 1950 Ford Woodie?

I don't know of any "plans" per se, but www.woodncarr.net/ has all the patterns for this year, and will provide the pieces you will need. You might also consider joining the National Woodie Club www.nationalwoodieclub.com/. I joined back in the 70's, and NWC has, along with the Early Ford V8 Club of America, been well worth it for good information on Ford Station Wagon restoration information.

Another source to consider is Rick Mack in the Tacoma Wa area. He only does 49-51 Ford and Merc woodies. If you go to http://www.rickmack.com you can read about his business and him.

Unless you have the old wood for patterns you are in for a real challenge. Join the National Woodie Club as others have suggested and you might find someone who has some pieces for patterns. If you need all the wood for the car you are probably looking at $10,000 for a new wood kit from most suppliers.

The people making wood for woodies use jigs which they use to cut all the parts, use routers with etc. Nobody is working from any blueprint like plan they could send you a copy of. It takes years of trial and error making jigs from original parts and fitting pieces to a car and refining the jigs to come up with something that is reproducable and will fit. I am in the varnishing stage of a complete 40 woodie restoration and am familiar with the process. Last time I talked with Rick Mack I think the price for a complete kit was closer to 14k then 10. There are compound curves in the plywood parts for the 49-51 cars which are not trivial to make. Good advice from others to join the Nat.Woodie club.
