I will soon be receiving a set of rebuilt front Houdaille shocks for my 46 coupe and would like to know if I can use my exisiting dog bone links or would it be better to replace with new ones? Thanks for any inputs. Steve

Steve, That is a tough question. 40 years ago, I would have said use new ones, but with the quality of today's reproductions, I cannot say that. If your old ones are tight in the sockets, I would use them. If they are loose, I would look for NOS or NORS parts from a supplier like Little Dearborn in MN. Tom

Loose dogbone shock links are often due to worn link balls. Because they don't have grease fittings, and are exposed to road grime, wear is often considerable. I don't believe the balls are being reproduced. We have had to make them in our machine shop. The lack of interest is probably related to the frequent conversion to tube shocks instead of the lever variety, making the links unnecessary.
