Can any one tell me if the felt between the outer and inter skin of the trunk is supposed to be black or body color. Thanks, Rick

Felt? Not felt. It is a heavy tar paper type material. Drake sells "waffle weave" paper that is a good replication of the original. Anyway, to answer your question... the paper (insulating material) was placed between the inner and outer skins prior to painting. This, the paper would have been painted. Through the many years of existence, the paper often absorbs any recognizable indications of prior paint and appears black.

As Mike points out, the liner was placed on the underside of the trunk lid before the inner support was added. This makes replacement of the liner impossible as a full sheet. Some kind of tar-like adhesive was used, usually making removal of the parts you can get to very difficult and time consuming, even if you plan to cut pieces to match the openings.
