I took many of Your suggestions on the 21 stud popping or back firing @ 50 MPH. All elec. is correct and all cyl. firing with nice spark. Vacuum @ high idle is 18 but bounces 2 or 3 # indicating sticky valves. I am running marvel oil in fuel/oil as well as into Cylinders and most of that went away. The bad part is the compression on all Cylinders is 65 to 70 # and has not got any better. Is this all doom & gloom?? This engine sat for a number of years after overhaul has very good oil pressure doesn't smoke or run hot. The popping went away with partial choke on so am starting to rejet the 97 carb..Has about 50 miles on it now..

I wouldn't expect sticking valves in an engine just rebuilt unless the clearance between the valve stem and lifter was not set correctly. The exhaust should be .014 to .016, intakes .010 to .012. If the exhausts were set at the intake clearance, they probably aren't fully closing when hot. The clearance has to be set and checked when the lifter is on the heel of the cam.
