I have a part from my convertible on a 1940 Ford, and I am not sure if this piece is supposed to be chrome or if it is stainless steel. Can anyone please let me know how this piece is finished. I am not able to tell.

A magnet will tell you if it is stainless steel, it won't stick to stainless. I believe that particular piece is painted body color but Mike Kubarth will know for sure. There is an early and late version of that part, one has only 1 snap the other has 3. Don't remember which is which.
