I finally found what appears to be the correct Spare Tire/Wheel Lock for the trunk of my '37 Touring Sedan. The guy didn't know what it was for and just wanted to get rid of it, so I didn't need any Vaseline when I purchased it for just $10.00. Anyway, it has Part #78-18304-C stamped on it which would be correct for the 1937 Model year. When I got home I tried to figure out the correct installation and found that it's offset base is confusing to me. It looks a little different than the picture as seen in the '37 Owners Manual. Can any of you who have the lock and bracket installed in their '37's post a few pictures as to it's correct installation? I've attached a picture of the unit I purchased. The 78-18304-C spare wheel & tire lock band is correct for the 37 38 and 39 Ford five window coupe with 5.50 and 6.00 x 16" tires.

MG, Cpipp01 has the right answer. The spare in the coupes stand upright behind the driver's seat. There is a brace that runs from the floopan to the package shelf and the spare rests against that brace; The spare in you sedan lays on the floor of the trunk and has different hold down hardware. It's a great buy on the lock assembly and I'm sure you could trade it for the correct one for your sedan and maybe get a little cash to boot.

So, I guess the 'C' at the end of the part # means 'Coupe'? Any of you out there have the correct one I need for my sedan that you would like to trade for the one I have??? Also, I'm wondering if I can modify the one I have in order to make it work. Maybe just a few bend adjustments. But, I would need pictures to do this. MG: The "C" as the suffix for a part number does not indicate Coupe. It is an indication the part has gone through several changes or modifications from it's original form (no suffix) The modifications may have made the part able to fit different models or years but that is not necessarily true, since the change may only correct an inherent problem with the part.
