Topic: Battery Group #'s

1934 Ford    -- 12-24-2009 @ 6:55 AM
The 1934 Ford has a short 6 volt battery under
the front floor, I think it was a Group 2L.
Does anybody know if that's the right #?
Anybody make it anymore? It doesn't need to be
Ford script, but it needs to be short.
Same questions for the 6 Volt VW Battery. (Also a short 6 Volt that fits in a metal box.)
Other than the Optima, what are you doing? I've used the Optima (One lasted 6 years, 1 last one year and one lasted 4 months, two still working at 4 years. The cranking amps drops to below 400 and won't do the job) If it fits and soes the job OK, but it's not a good fit and I'd prefer to use the original syle if possible in some cars.
I lowered the box on my 35 Pickup and had to move
the battery to under the back seat on my 34 Fordor.
What I'm asking for is the original Group #'s for the V8 and the VW and what other options besides the Optima that people have found.

There is no equal for old cars than the 6 volt Red Top Optima. If the battery tray doesn't fit, you can leave the old battery in place, and put the Optima in another location. These batteries can be mounted in any position without leakage, etc, making the job much easier.

The correct battery group is 2LF. The size is 10.25 x 6.75 x 8 inches. Antique auto battery still makes them as well as other sources.

The Optima is still the battery of choice and they do honor the warrenty. Fast charging will cause them to fail as well as long term sitting with less than a full charge.
