What is being used to restore 1937 DeLuxe Interior Handles? All of the coating on my window cranks and interior door handles are gone. The coating on the rear door window cranks came off in large pieces--(see photo). Perhaps in the future I could restore the original cranks and handles if possible. I have seen people faking it with brown paint--not sure I want to go there. Would like to use an authentic coating if possible. Any suggestions? Any help greatly appreciated. It looks as if the handles were dipped in a plastic coating like the ones on my 40 Mercury. Over the years, I have tried many ways to duplicate this and have not found a good method yet. I got the best results by painting the handles with a transparent paint (color mixed into a blending paint) and then coating the handles with the 2 part clear plastic sold in hobby shops. It is very difficult to get a coating that is thick enough to survive using the car, any coats above 2 just make the coating cloudy. Tom

I would suggest a powder coating.. A good powder coating shop can put a primer/sealer on a part prior to the powder coat.. I had the top irons and brackets for my convertible coupe powder coated.... In a color called camel.. Kind of a beige color.. The assembly turned out very nicely.. Some of the cross braces were originally chrome plated with the balance painted... I did not want to cut the original heavy duty rivets to separate the pieces that needed chrome plating.. I know some perfectionist will look at the top assembly and come all unglued because some of cross braces are not chrome... Oh well, you can't please everyone.. Bill 36 5 win delx cpe
