Does anyone know the secret or special tool to install the round springs on the hood. I restored the car and the springs are not on correctly since they don't hold the hood open. I know this cause I have an original 53 ford that has the springs installed correctly from the factory. These are the springs that coil up. Thanks ahead of time.

I am attaching the instructions for installing the "clockspring" type hood hinge spring. You will have to improvise a tool shown in the picture.

Those clock springs have take quite a bit of force to re-install. When I have to exert a lot of force on a spring, I use bailing wire attached to a stick. I loop the bailing wire around the spring end and then wrap the other end around a stick. I leave the wire long enough so that I can get into a good position to pull the wire and have someone guide the spring end onto its stud. Wear safety glasses whenever working with a spring. They can slip off or break causing lots of damage. Tom
