Topic: sidemounts on 34 Ford

voced    -- 10-01-2009 @ 7:02 PM
Did they ever have fender sidemounts on 34 Fords? I saw them on a roadster and wasn't sure if they ever came that way. Can anyone advise me on this?
Thanks, Jerry

Yes side mounts were available for the 33 and 34 Fords there are a number of factory photos. I believe they were standard equipment on the sedan delivery. optional on others.

I have a very rare set of trunk-rack brackets for a '33-34 car which had sidemounts. It has a hole that fits in the bumper bracket mounting hole and wraps around the bracket itself for stability. This allows for the trunk-rack to fit close to the body. This is for a car without the rear mounted spare. It must have been for special ordered cars.

I thought that someone might want to see a photo of my Trunk-Rack brackets for a '33-34 Ford with sidemounts, so I hastly attached one to the left side an snapped a picture of it for you.

It the 'old days' it was very common to see fender mounted spares on the '33-34 Ford open cars. I have also seen many sedans and coupes with the fender mounted spares.
I know two guys that have '34 Ford open cars with dual side mounts.
It would appear that by 1935 Ford discontinued the practice of offering fender mounted spares on any of their cars, even the sedan delivery's.

Ford might have discontinued fender mounted spares in 1935, but that doesn't explain the 37 Ford roadster with a right side sidemount, driven in the Nancy Drew mystery series.
