I purchased the topper from a guy that said he had purchased the topper at the 1978 Tulsa Grand National Meet it has the number 78-032 on the back side. I have attached a photo of the topper, any information would be great. Thanks

I'm sure someone will correct me if i'm wrong... Wasn't there a EFV8CA National Meet in Tulsa that year? I know there was one very early Oklahoma meet that lost a lot of money, maybe your purchase helped their bottom line just a bit! Alan

Tulsa? -"V8 CAPITAL OF THE WORLD"??? It just had to have something to do with the EFV8 Club. It really looks to be well made and neat/rare. It is difinitely a keeper and of value and should be displayed......MG

The 2nd Grand National Meet of the Early Ford V-8 Club was held in Tulsa July 16-21,1978. The 1st was in Dearborn August 9-12, 1973. the 3rd through 9th were back in Dearborn. The 10th Grand National will be held next June in Lake Tahoe. Ken

I don't know why the topper didn't melt. The temperature got down to 100 at 1:00AM. The golfers were out at midnight. It was too hot for my kids to go in the pool, but the concourse was inside an air-conditioned building. I don't remember them selling the topper, but I remember the advertising in the V-8 Times. Tom

I didn't go to Tulsa in 78, even though I was an EV8CA member at the time. I'd guess that if the concourse was air-conditioned, that it must have been held at the Tulsa Expo Center, which at the time was the largest clear-span structure in the world. I do attend the "Chili Bowl" there every January, which is an indoor dirt-track racing course, pits and trade show all under one roof. Check it out! www.chilibowl.com/ . If you like tense, close dirt track racing, this is the place. Last year NASCAR regular Tony Stewart (Chili Bowl 3-time winner) got his clock cleaned by one of our favorite locals by the name of Swindell. My interest in short track dirt track racing goes back to the late 40's when such names as Troy Ruttman, Roger Ward, Sam Hanks, Billy Vucovitch etc. were battling it out at our local track in San Bernardino CA. About half of these guys were running Edelbrock modified Ford V8-60's, and the rest ran Offy's.

Stroker, that event looks like fun. I saw Tony Stewart run a USAC midget on the dirt at Calistoga, Ca. a few years back. I love midget racing , especially the USAC cars as they don't run the wings. I was also a member of the V-8 Club in 1978 and knew several people who went to the GN in Tulsa. J.R. Ballard and several RG #29 members went to Tulsa.They always talked about the heat in Tulsa. I stayed a lot cooler in Nor Cal reading about the meet in the V-8 Times.
