What is your preferred undercoat treatment (acid/primer?) for a frame that has been cleaned to bare metal?

The best advice is to use the same brand of primer as you plan to topcoat with. Frames are difficult to paint, as they almost always harbor rust and other contaminants in the pores of the metal and crevices around crossmembers, etc.. Even sand or bead blasting seldom removes all traces. We have tried POR primer and paint with limited success. Same with powder coating. Your best bet is to contact an industrial coatings firm in your area for recomendations. They provide paints for bridges, towers, and other metals exposed to the elements.
