Topic: Model A not V8 question

I have got such answers to Ford V8 questions I thought I would try a Model A question.
Last year I added a modern style spin-on oil filter mounted on the timing gear cover of the Model A engine. I thought it was about time to change the oil and filter. When I unscr*w*d the filter it was dry inside, there was no oil inside the filter. My questions are: Did I install the filter incorrectly or has the oil pump quit? Question #2: How can I check to see if the oil pump is working? Any suggestions?
Thanks

I had Model As, but never saw a spin on filter conversion. It doesn't seem likely that there is enough oil pressure in the timing gear cover, as it would have to be gravity fed, unless there was some additional plumbing. Spin on filters are full flow operating at 80 lbs and up. I'd check my installation materials, or the maker of the device to see what was intended. As to oil pressure, you must have it, or you would be hearing lots of banging as the bearings fail. I've seen spin on filter conversions for V8's, but I am not impressed. Fooling with oil systems can court disaster. Frequent oil changes are better.
