On my 53 Merc how many teeth on the speedo gear when i have 4/11 rear end ? I have to run 5 MPH faster reading to get the true speed. 55 realy is 50 mph. BILL

The standard gear for 4:11 is 21teeth. Speedometer accuracy is affected by tire size and inflation, as well as condition of the speedo itself. Five percent variation isn't rare.

If the speedometer needs repair and you fix the problem by changing the gear you will then have a problem with the odometer. Charlie Stephens
