Through the years, I've had excellent luck with Stoddard solvent. This is a clear non-flammable product that is basically kerosene without any oil. It won't hurt plastic, and does a very good job of removing oil and grease. Because it is mainly used today as an additive to jet fuel, it has become more expensive, but it's worth it. Best place to find it would be your local oil jobber. You might have to buy a 55 gallon drum though.

We buy our parts washer solvent from our local oil jobber in 5 gallon lots. I agree with Stroker that it can get pricey, but anything having to do oil is, anyway. For minor parts cleaning, we use either a cheap paint thinner or the kerosene sold for lamp use. In any case, don't use gasoline or other volatile fluid, particularly in this cold season when there are ignition providers, such as pilot lights. Another tip: We converted to all LED worklights, as broken light bulbs can, and do, cause shop fires. Flammable fumes hug the floor, and a dropped light can cause an instant inferno.
