Topic: Nylon kingpin bushings

  Hi Guys,
Working on a 1952 Ford Mainline.

Looking for nylon kingpin bushings to replace the original brass bushings.

I've heard that someone makes them but not able to find someone who sells them.

Does anyone know where I can get replacements in Nylon?

Thanks,
Rick

Well, I am just curious. Why would you want to use nylon instead of the original bronze??

Easier to replace and no honing/machining special tools needed.

I've never seen them. The fit of the kingpins to the spindle is very important Order both the king bolts and the bushings and take them to a good machine shop. They will install the new bushings and hone them to exactly fit the bolts (kingpins). At our shop, if the spindles have been cleaned up, that is usually a $50 job to have it done properly. We fit the bolts with a Sunnen wrist pin machine so they are correct.

Seems to be popular more so with the truck guys. The issue I've ran into so far is the year. Most poly manufactures stopped at 1966 but you can custom order if you have the dimensions. Here's a vendor/manufacture - http://energysuspension.com/products.html

The car we're working on is in the Tucson, AZ area if anyone knows of a good machine shop there?

If you are a club member use your roster and contact V-8 Club members in the Tuscon area. They will refer you to a good machine shop.

I'm with Supereal on the nylon bushings for the kingpins.

The kingpins and their fit are very important to correct steering and safety. I would worry that the nylon would distort under the pressure applied by the kingpins in situations where the road is bumpy and on curves with bumps.

Look for a shop that does a lot of truck work, they should be able to ream the bushings for you.
