I need to have my distributor serviced from my 48 coupe, anyone have advice and or part #'s for a good set of contact points from Napa or Carquest?

We buy our point sets from C&G. 800/266-0470. The left hand set is available from places like NAPA because they were used in the later distributors. The right hand set is usually not stocked. Be aware that the market is full of inferior quality points. Many have shorted insulators and/or missing threads in the connector block. We usually request that those wanting their distributor set up on our machine to send the points with it. The last one came with both sets unusable from a major vendor, one we avoid.

Who makes the point sets you buy from C&G? A local parts store stocks Standard points, but the box says made in Mexico. Any good?

You can call and ask them. We haven't found a bad set yet. Even if the rest of a point set appears correct, without a scale, it isn't possible to know if the springs are good. Too many of the repro springs are weak, and show up on our machine as they bounce. Truth is, a majority of parts are now made in foreign places, even for new vehicles. Some are fine, but an increasing number are not. The rejection rate at our shop is over thirty percent and rising. If you find a good vendor, stick with them.

Here are the Echlin points I buy off the shelf from NAPA and have never had a problem: (Part # ECH CS47) http://napaonline.com/Catalog/CatalogItemDetail.aspx?R=ECHCS47_0221961302

Has anybody tried the ignition parts from Drake?

I still have a few sets of Ford points that I am keeping for future use. The Standard point that I have tried in the past have not been up to the quality of the Ford points.

Will try the Napa points. I wish the big vendors would take more of a role to weed out the bad inferior parts, but I guess that would cut into profits.
