When re-installing the distributor on my '36 is it necessary to have #1 on TDC?

Flatbob: The short answer is "no". Just make sure you observe the slight offset slot on the front of the cam and make sure that the offset tab on the distributor is oriented the same. If you get it wrong, it will be difficult to seat the distributor in the timing cover and align the capscrews with the threaded holes in the cover. The unit is designed to only allow installation correctly.

Stroker, thanks for responding; it's been many years since I installed the dizzy and couldn't remember if I needed TDC.

while you have it out, install a stud in the top hole. it makes the installation a snap. things are tight in there. weezer

Weezer, thanks for the tip it looked like it was going to be a 2 man job to re-install the dizzy; you're right, it's really tight quarters. Bob
