Took the suggestion of the Golden Gate Charter and used Minwax Ebony on my original firewall insulator cardboard and it looks great. I used small pieces of a cotton towel, rubbed on a first coat, let set 30 seconds and wiped off with similiar cloth gently. When it dried, there was just a hint of refresh (it did look better) so I put on a very light second coat, let set about 20 seconds and wiped off. Looks very nice now. Don't want to leave on too long as it will darken and give a luster the original never had. Thanks for the expertise.
