Topic: Wheel pinstripes

The 46-48 Fords have 3 painted pinstripes on the wheels. The center pinstripe appears to be slightly wider than the other two. Does anoyone know the correct width for the stripes?

Thank you.

I measured the original stripes on the wheels of my '47. The outer and inner stripes are 1/16", the center stripe is 1/8". The spaces between the top and bottom stripes is 1/8". The outer stripe edge is 1 1/2" from where the center of the wheel meets the rim. I'm not sure how the stripes were applied, but they appear to have been hand brushed, as they vary somewhat in consistency.

Supereal you've done it again. By now you've probably answered a million questions for me. Thank you.

Supereal is correct on the size and placement of the stripes. Looking at an original rim I have on hand it appears that a tool similar to the Beugler striping tool but with three wheels the correct width and spacing apart was held in a frame over the rotating wheel. On the wheel I have you can see where the tool started and stopped and you can see the grooves on the striping wheels in the paint.

I was able to replicate the machine using an axle half to support the wheel to be striped and a Beugler tool held in a frame. However since the tool only holds one wheel at a time I had to apply it three times to get the required stripes.

Here is a finished wheel done using the method I just described.
