I have a '51 which needs tires and I have decided to go radial but size is a problem. I am getting some mixed signals. The standard tire is a 6.70-15 a 205/75R15 is "suppose' to be a radial substitution. The problem is the whitewall width. The maximum available is 2 3/4" Which is much smaller than the 3 1/2" bias tires currently on the car which look period correct. If I go with a 215/75R15 I can get a 3" ww which would be a somewhat better compromise than the 205 width. Now for the question! Can I run 215s without creating some fitting problems between the tire and the body in the rear? Thanks for the help. Tom

I wold not put a larger tire on I'm running the 205 on my 35 they work great.In a month you wont notice the difference.And you will love they why they handle. Bill

Diamond Back will make whatever width whitewall you prefer on whatever tire size. I have 215-75-15 on my 51 with stnd 3 rib skirts. No problem. I'm also running 205's on another 51. Going forward, I'd be happy with 205's.

6.70/15 should measure 28.5" in diameter. 215/75/15 should be27.5" in dia.8.5" wide///235 are9" wide and 29"diam. Iwould go on a tire web sit to get there exact measurements

When changing tire size and construction type, radial vs bias, you must keep in mind your rim size vs the tire manufactures suggested rim size.. I have used P205/75R tires on my '57 Bird since '73 with no problems..Most tire manufactures recommend a 6./7. inch wheel for the P205 tire. Coker's tire booklet shows all of the wheel recommendations for any given size of tires.. Wheels earlier than '56-57 can be very narrow, less than 6", which will pinch the tire bead in and result in a tire that does not properly contact the road. I try to live by the rule to 'not let the directions on the can out smart me'... Bill 36 5 win delx cpe

I just installed a set of Diamond Backs on my '49 Ford Convertible. 205.75x15, 2-3/4 in WWW. I would have liked the 2.10's but DB wouldn't guarantee that the rear fender wouldn't hit going around corners. I have skirts on it and my finger was about all the space I had with 7.10's on the rear. I know these shoeboxes came from the factory with 3 - 1/2 in WWW's but they look out of place now. In fact by l952 they were not made any longer. They are MUCH better tires than my old Coker bius belted tires!
