Topic: '39 headlight lens gasket retainer

I have a repro cork gasket and brass retainer strip for application between the lens and the bucket. I'm having a hard time getting the retainer around the gasket. Any suggestions to make the job easier?

this is a pain to do,
I did my 37 last spring, you can try gluing the gasket to the retainer,in few spots,[ letting dry, contact cement or 3M weather trim cement, the yellow, use just a little,] and maybe triming to size,
the gaskets they sell are not the best,if you have any of the old gasket , match it up with the repro, to see if the repro is close,
the orginal gasket is not square,it is wider on one side than the other,
You might have to flatten with a piece of wood,to get the correct shape,
I looking for a rubber gasket replacement,
also be careful when putting together, I cracked a original lense doing this, trying to get the headlamp rim back on, it cracked overnight, noticed it the next day, GOOD LUCK,,,
hope this helps 37RAGTOPMAN
