Topic: Elec fuel pump 40 Ford

I am in the process of installing an electric fuel pump on my 40 ford. What do I do with old mech fuel pump? Do I pipe around it or leave it in the line? Or do I remove the push rod to keep it from pumping?
Thanks for your advice.

Many guys use the electric pump as a "back up" if the stock pump should fail.
If that's your intention, I would suggest you place the electric pump in line, near the tank. Wire it to a switch that is normally off. That is, you need to trigger it for the electric pump to work.

Now, if the stock pump does not work and you are simply attempting to rig something up vs. fixing the problem, then I would suggest leaving the old pump and rod in place.
In either scenario, I would advise wiring the pump (or switch) to the ignition side so the electric pump operates (only) when the ignition is on.
