Topic: Piston question.

We have an engine in our shop which has a set of domed pistons marked 09A. They are three ring type, and appear to have the "Silverlite" logo on them, and are for 3 3/16 bore. The engine is a 59AB. Anyone know anything about them? Whoever put the engine together used floating bearings on some rods, and 8BA inserts on others, so we aren't sure what we will find next.

  Super:

I believe this is a 37-42 "T-Slot" replacement piston from Ford. I'll send you the
shop service notes on this.

Thanks, Dan. The 09A pistons, according to my manuals, were for the 85 hp (3 1/16) engines, while the 09T were for the later 59AB, 3 3/16, and had four rings. These 09A's are three ring pistons. Given that whomever put the engine together mixed rods, some were floating, and others fixed bearing type, I'm surprised we found anything that is "by the book". Anyone who thinks that coolant doesn't destroy bearings should see the ones in this motor.
