Topic: brake lite switch

When using silicone brake fluid, more pedal pressure is required to trigger the brake lite switch on my 41 Deluxe coupe. I've replace the switch, still the same. I've been told to replace it with one from a Harley- Davidson. Makes sense, since these are engineered for silicone fluid. Does anyone know whats adaptable? ( model, year, part no.)

I can't help with the Harley Davidson question I just use the switch sold by Ron Francis, (800) 292-1940, wire-works.com, for use with silicone brake fluids.

Thank you Charlie. Does this switch work with more sensitive pressure, as I've been warned by following motorists that i have "no brakelites' only to find out they do work with a heavy brakefoot.

I believe it does but you need to ask them.

I noticed Mac's Auto parts lists switch C1AZ-13480-TQ. Says DOT 5 compatible, low pressure.

Kind of pricy at $35.75

The Harley switches come in several forms. Some have spade terminals, others use screws, and one has wire leads. We buy them for between fifteen to twenty dollars from J&P Cycles.

Do they easily adapt to stock master cylinders w/ 6v?

My real life expierence with using silicone brake fluid and switches is this : The Harley Davidson switch failed as quickly as the original Ford type. The Ron Francis switch is supposedly silicone compatible and requires much lower pressure, mine has been working for three years now.

Most, if not all, switches mount with 1/8" pipe thread. They are just an on/off diaphragm switch, so voltage and/or polarity is not an issue.
