Topic: Pressure plate

My '36 has a 59AB with a '39 trans. I have the trans out for a rebuild and looking things over, I noticed one of the 3 fingers on the pressure plate has about am 1/8" play back and forth from the flywheel while the other two are tight. Is this a concern?

The clutch worked fine before, no slip or chatter, but as I had to take out the seat, floorboards, rear axle, etc. I sure don't want to do this again.

Yes, that is a problem. I the good old days, I'd advise you to go to your local automotive machine shop and have them set the fingers, resurface the pressure plate and replace the springs. Today, with few exceptions they have no way to accomplish this correctly. So....
given the work you have already invested in disassembly, I'd ship it off to a specialty clutch
rebuilder such as http://www.fortwayneclutch.com/

Thanks Stroker I figured that was an issue.. I have used Fort Wayne in the past.

Thanks for your time

When you install the pressure plate, make sure that you block the release fingers to keep pressure off of the clutch. This will keep you from warping the pressure plate. Remove the wedges after tightening the pressure plate and before removing the alignment tool.
